I broke it. Working on it. Looks like the new stuff will be going in sooner than I'd planned unless I can get it back together again. —Fritz
Update for May 9, 2007
- Contratulations to Adam Foote and Alissa Foote for receiving Superior ratings in Solo Performance at District Solo and Ensemble Festival this Saturday at North Lincoln High School. They represented themselves and Vance in a very professional manner and impressed their judges. If you see either of them...give them a huge pat on the back. Yet another outstanding achievement for our band students!

Superior
The Vance High School Symphonic (and more) Band earned a rating of Superior (I) at the South Central District Bandmasters Association's 2007 High School Festival in Grade IV competition. A close look at the results shows that it was a perfect sweep—straight 1's from all four judges.
Nice job, folks. Mr. Carrington, thank you for all your work bringing this band back to where it should be. Kids, wow. Just wow. Your webmaster has never doubted you had it in you: It's nice that you have had this chance to see it (again) for yourselves. Congratulations.

- Marolyn Garo (Flute) and Rick Knack (Bassoon) have been selected to participate in the Virginia Tech Honor Band January 19-21. (Looks like the webmaster's old HS band may be involved. Their director—the third in 1 1/2 years at the time—has been there since Spring Semester 1983, Mr. Knack's last one with the BHS Band. She probably doesn't remember him, but Mr. Knack remembers that she rescued the struggling program.)
- Rumor has it that the Vance High School Band is featured in the current issue of University City Magazine. It doesn't appear to be on their website (yet?), though, so be sure to keep an eye out for a hard copy.
Updates for Thursday, November 9

- Tomorrow (Friday, 11/3) is the last day for fruit orders. If you haven't sold at least 15 boxes yet, you'd better be working that phone tonight. Didn't your 4th Grade teacher tell you to keep in touch? Maybe she'd like some juicy Florida oranges. If you need another copy of the flyer, it's here (.PDF link).
Updates for Tuesday, October 31

- The last day for fruit orders is this Friday, 11/3. If you need another copy of the flyer, it's here (.PDF link).

Updates for Monday, October 30

- Kim gave Fritz a few CDs with pictures, so those should be up in the next few days. Watch this space.
- Rumor has it that the sweet little old lady next door has been craving Florida grapefruit. Why don't you stop by and offer to sell her a box?
10/27: Change in Porter Ridge Performance Time!
The performance time at Porter Ridge has been changed to 1:00pm tomorrow. We will be leaving the school as soon after 9:00am as we can arrange to do so. Don't be late!
- Have you called that strange Aunt of yours to ask if she'd like to buy some tasty Florida oranges?
Updates for Wednesday, October 25
- Sell Fruit! The fruit fundraiser is the single biggest income generator the band has. Band fees for this season are the lowest they've been in years, but we can't afford to do that if the fundraiser(s) don't make money. Competitions, music, equipment, transportation, uniform maintenance—you did like getting one that didn't smell like last year's occupant, didn't you? None of this stuff is free. Sell Fruit!
- Thursday 10/26: Practice 5:30pm - 8:30pm.
- Friday 10/27: Vance at Hopewell. Call time is 4:30pm. Mr. Carrington has not yet decided if the whole band is going or if it's a "pep band" trip.
- Saturday 10/28: Because of scheduling conflicts, we are only going to the Porter Ridge competition. (See the calendar for details.) Rehearsal from 9:00am - 12:00pm before we go. Expecdt to be back around 11:00pm.
- New! Tuesday 11/7 is Vance Band Day at Lennie's Subs at the Davis Lake location. Go for lunch and/or dinner and tell them you're supporting the Vance HS Band. We'll get a portion of the proceeds. Tell your friends! Watch calendar: We've also got 12/5 and 1/9, hopefully with more to come.
- Sell Fruit!

What's New – 2006-09-12
- Booster Meeting Tonight! 7:00pm in the band room. The most important thing on the agenda is Election of Board Members/Officers. We already have the names of a few parents who have responded with interest for an Officer position. We really need to get this accomplished so we can move forward and start functioning with a Board in place before our October meeting. A slate will be presented at the meeting and nominations taken from the floor.
- The football game this Friday night is at home against Independence. Call time is 5:00pm. Attire is the summer uniform unless it turns cold on us.
- Students are reminded that they must have a flip folder and lyre with their music to be able to participate with the Marching Cougars starting Friday. There will not be a flip folder crate anymore.
- Band Lab Fees are still due Please remember to make timely payments so that we can continue to travel with the football team and particpate in competitions.

Vance at Butler tonight. Driving Directions from Vance High School, 7600 Ibm Dr, Charlotte, NC to David W Butler High School, 1810 Matthews Mint Hill Rd, Matthews, NC. The webmaster apologizes for this. We were at Harding last week. I hope no one ended up at the wrong place. The calendar is correct and generally up to date.
Come on out and be ready to make some noise!
What's New – 2006-08-31
- Re-linked the Harris Teeter Together in Education icon to the left in the menu. Folks, this can be a huge source of income. Rumor has it that
ButlerHopewell(?) doesn't even have to sell fruit because of their TIE activity... Use 5418. Even if you were linked before, you need to relink. They reset every August. - Added Scott Brower and Jabrond Gamble to the Chain of Command page in the handbook.
What's New – 2006-08-27
- Pictures! and a link on the menu to the Photo Gallery. Older pictures will eventually be restored.
- Updated the footer so that it also has links to the Photos and Links pages.
- Fixed the background image in the banner. After refreshing once or twice, you should no longer see the gray band going across to the right.

What's New – 2006-08-16
The end of band camp pot luck dinner will be held Friday, August 18 at the Chestnut pool. Directions:
- Leaving the school entrance, take a left onto IBM Drive.
- Follow IBM Drive Until the Intersection at W.T. Harris and IBM Drive, then go left at the light. (Will pass a Harris Teeter and Eckerd’s on the left hand corners)
- Go through that light and continue on W.T. Harris Blvd for approximately 2 miles.
- You will make a right onto Sugar Creek Rd at the next light (the right after you past Cheshire Place Shopping Center)
- Once you make the right onto Sugar Creek Rd you will pass a Citgo Gas Station followed by a Bloom’s grocery store. Continue on Sugar Creek Rd. and you will cross through the lighted intersection of Sugar Creek and David Cox Rd.
- There are 2 entrances to Cheshunt off this road. The second one is easier to access because once you turn into the neighborhood you do not need to make any more turns. Past the first entrance to Cheshunt on the left and make a left into Cheshunt’s 2nd entrance (This is BROWNE’S FERRY RD). The Swim and Clubhouse entrance is off of this road.
- The Clubhouse is on the right hand side of the road about .3 mi from the entrance of the neighborhood; you can’t miss the entrance. You will see a playground, volleyball court, and tennis courts from the road and the pool is behind the Tennis courts. There is only a small parking lot so if it is full you make park on the street outside of the clubhouse.
Watch for an email from Darlene Lozano with further details.
What's New – 2006-07-15
- Don Addis & Associates will be at the school Tuesday, August 15 to measure for shoes. Payment is expected with your order. The form and other details are available on the Marching tab.
